  1. In chapter 4 of the book Hoot, the protagonist Roy’s mother Liz Eberhardt made Roy stay home because of his golf ball injury, to make sure there was no Delayed reaction from the injury.

He finally got back to school and word spread around his school like wildfire that he was a tough guy because he punched and broke Dana(one of the schools biggest bullies) nose. He tries to deny that he is tough and his “friends” believe him.

Roy while talking his friends about the whole situation notices the blond girl he ran into on the bus and asks his friends what her name is. His friends that her name is “Beatrice Leep” she is apparently one of the toughest people in their school because she slammed a jawk into a fountain because he slapped her on the butt and broke his collarbone. So Roy doesn’t want to get on her bad side because he pissed her off earlier for chasing down the shoeless kid and almost knocking her over. So at lunch he goes over and sits by her and tells her and I quote “I’ve got no idea why you’re mad about what happened on the bus You’re not the one who got choke and you’re not the one who got punched in the nose. So I’m only going to say this once: If I something to upset you, I’m sorry. It wasn’t on purpose.”

What Roy said either made Beatrice so shocked that she wasn’t angry at him(if she was to begin with) or he made her even more angry for back talking her and kind of putting her down right in front of her friends.

Roy later on had to an apology letter to Dana for punching and breaking his nose, the letter was a bit forceful and sarcastic but he still didn’t change it(even though he was told by both his parents to do so). He went to Dana’s house, his mother answered the door and asked what he wanted, he asked for Dana an Dana’s mother yelled for him. His mother was a jerk just like her son, or her son is a jerk like her, either way they both are jerk’s(and they look alot a like). Roy hands Dana the letter, he reads it and crumples it up and his mother gets mad and tries to wrestle the letter away from Dana to try and read it.
That’s my summary of chapter 4.

  4. Chapter 4 begins with Roy’s mom making him stay home all weekend to make sure there was no delayed reaction to the golf ball incident. After the weekend was over Roy went back to school and everybody was asking him about the incident on the bus with Dana. The next day officer Delinko got up early to go to the the construction site, which he liked doing because it was like a break from his daily routine.Officer Delinko took on this case because he was intrigued by the pattern of mischief at the new construction site. He’s hoping that if he solves this case he will get a promotion and become a professional police detective. Officer Delinko dozed off for a bit too long and someone came and spray painted his car windows and pulled up the construction stakes again. The chapter then ended with Roy going to Dana’s house and giving him the apology letter, which Dana did not read, and Roy just got back in the car with his mom and they went back home.
