Independent Book - Conflict Connection (text to self)

Identify the central conflict of your book.  Compare the conflict with a situation from your own life....something you've experienced that made you feel the same way, face the same challenges, etc...
Must include quotes from your book.

This will be TWO paragraphs (4-5 sentences minimum)

Paragraph 1:  Identify your book's conflict.  Get quotes that connect and show what your conflict is.

Paragraph 2:  Write about how you have faced a similar conflict

Text to Text Connection

Make a connection to the theme or character or conflict in Deadline and a real-world situation.  Use "comparison" transition words such as: Similarly, in the same way, in comparison, likewise, etc.

Include the link at the end of response.

Live Every Day...

In the epilouge, Cody reads a speech at graduation from Ben, and it contained this quote:

"Live every day like you're going to live forever and every day like it's going to be your last"

How does this quote relate to Ben's life?  How does this quote relate to your life?  To explain, use examples from the book and from your own life.

End of Book Prediction

Now that Ben has told his History class, everyone in Trout will know about his disease and that he's dying.  Before we read the final two chapters, make a prediction how the book will end.  

Deadline Ch. 18, 19 and 20

In chapters 18, 19, and 20, Ben begins telling certain people about his condition and that he's dying.  Explain who he tells and how they react.  Support your answer by using textural support with page number.

EX. The first person Ben told that he was dying was Mr. Hinske.  He reacted by not believing Ben and Mr. Hinske "fell on the ground and started laughing hysterically," (p. 206) because Ben is always joking around.  When Ben didn't smile, even after 10 minutes, Mr. Hinske finally came to realize Ben was telling the truth.

The Truth

In Chapter 17, Ben realizes this:

"The thing that prevents the worst from happening is the truth."

Do you believe this statement?  Write an essay that gives evidence from both the book and your life to support your stance.

Ben's Dilemma

At the end of Chapter 13, we find out some very personal information about Dallas; she shares her deepest secret with Ben.  She also says she "hates secrets" and Ben knows that he needs to tell Dallas his deepest secret.  Explain how you believe Ben is going to tell Dallas?  4-5 sentences minimum.
