  1. A real world conflict that relates to a conflict in the book Deadline is dying from a rare skin disease. Ben Wolf the main character in the book is an 18 year old teenager that is dying from a rare disease aka blood cancer. Ben wolf in the book tries to live life to the fullest while he still has one to live. by doing so he tries things he never would have done before like going out for football, dating his dream girl and absolutely just screwing with his teachers. The main character’s conflict relates to a real life event.
Like Sam Berns “A Massachusetts teenager who became a well-known face of the premature aging disease progeria has died, his family confirmed online.” Sam Berns, of Foxborough, Mass., died on Friday at 17 years old, according to a statement posted on the website of the Progeria Research Foundation. Children with the rare disease live on average 13 years before succumbing to the genetic condition, which gives them the appearance of accelerated aging. Berns was the subject of a 2013 HBO documentary film, "Life According to Sam." The film drew the attention of Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots NFL football team, which plays in Berns' hometown. The Patriots planned a moment of silence in the teenager's honor before their playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night, local media reported.” says Ross Kerber by the NBC News.
What these two kids have incommon is well that one is sadly deceased, and one is theoretically dead. Something else they have in common is that they both did thing that they probably never would have done before. Like Ben well fell in love with the girl of his dreams and Sam Berns got to walk out onto center ice with Zdeno chara # 33 of the Boston Bruins. So you see this is a story that relates to the main character’s conflict in the book Deadline.

  2. Ben in the book Deadline had a disease that caused him to die at age 18 and he didn’t get to be at his graduation and in a similar situation Sam Berns in the real world also had a disease that caused him to get weaker as he got older called Progeria. Sam also didn’t get to go to his graduation as he died at age 17. Sam Berns died Friday from complications of the disease. (Progeria is a fatal genetic condition that causes rapid aging.) Sam was diagnosed at just 22 months old and his parents, Dr. Leslie Gordon and Dr. Scott Berns, reacted to his diagnosis by creating the Progeria Research Foundation in 1999 to find the cause of the disease and a cure. In Ben’s case he was diagnosed with his disease later in life but Sam and Ben were similar because they both had a fatal disease that made them very weak over time. Ben had a determination to play football, Sam had the determination to be in the Foxborough High School marching band. Sam was told he couldn’t play and was judged by his disease and appearance but he was determined to make it work, he got his parents and someone else to create a harness and drum for him that only weighed 6 pounds together as the original drum and harness were 40 pounds and Sam was only 50 pounds. Similar to Sam, Ben was short statured and was easily judged for his appearance on the football team, but he gave his all and left behind a legacy for everyone to remember just like Sam Berns.

  3. In Deadline by Chris Crutcher, Ben held something inside him that he didn’t want to tell anybody because he wanted to keep his blood disease to himself. Ben shouldn’t have kept the secret to himself because when he told the truth to Dallas she freaked out at him and told him to leave. Getting the truth out was what Ben did and got into trouble with Dallas, and the other people was kind to him. Ben felt guilty that he hadn’t gotten the truth out before all of this stuff happened.

This is similar to speaking the truth in the news because they say that truth is one of the greatest powers in the universe. They say that you have to have courage to spread the truth. The worst thing to do is keep the truth a secret and speak up. The truth spreads like a wildfire. If you don’t get the truth out then you feel guilty about it. You should get the truth out before you keep it a secret and not tell anyone about it. Before you get the truth out, use your brain and think about the situation that you have, and speak out before it gets too late to do so.

If Ben told the truth before it was too late then everything would be different, and Dallas would forgive him about not speaking out.

  4. Sooner is like Richard Heferle because he struck a tree late at night. This is the same thing as Sooner because he struck sleeping lady in her car. But they had the unfortunate event that they both die late at night. Then the school provide counseling to the students that were affected by this death this was pretty high for both Sooner and Richard. Rihard friends were in denial like “No I just saw him a hour ago”. Sooner friends were not expecting this but when Ben heard this he was like wow didn't see that coming.

  5. In the book Deadline, There was a high school jock named Sooner Cowans who died in a car crash. This was a very unexpected death that happened very end of the book because it happened right before Ben Wolf’s death. They both attended Trout High School in Trout, Idaho.

A similar event happened to actor Paul Walker who was famous for his role as Brian O’Connor in the Fast & the Furious movie series. On November 30th, Walker died in a car crash from crashing into a concrete light pole and two trees making the car burn on fire.

Paul Walker and Sooner Cowans are quite alike because they are both dead caused by car crashes. They were both into drama because Paul Walker was obviously a professional actor, and to me, I think Sooner Cowans was a drama queen since he was huge at complaining and he was a bully over little situations.

That is how Deadline relates to Paul Walker’s Death.

  6. I think Ben’s disease relates to someone I personally know named Frehley. Frailey’s situation is like Ben’s if not worse because instead of tell the end of the year Frehley was told she might not even have 1 month to live. Frehley though just like Ben is staying positive until the end and her family and her friends(including my family) as well. Because you know what they say it ain’t over until the fish jumps.

The only difference between Frehley and Ben is that for one obvious reason Frehley is real and Ben is fictional. But besides that the other differences is that Frehley is actually trying to fight it and getting treatment. And the other one being what they leave behind and how it affects everyone around them. Ben kept it hidden from everyone until it got to the point where he knew he didn’t have much time left. Frehley though on the other hand knew because for one she’s only 11 she really can’t keep it a secret, and Ben was 18 so that’s another difference.

Another similarities though is what they want to do in between that, Ben want’s to accomplish his goals like get his dream girl and make it on the football. Frehley on the other hand though wants to spend time with her friends and family and try to fight this thing as much as she can.

another connection is what they both accomplished, Ben got to go out with the girl of his dreams and made it and was one of the best on the football team. He also summed up the courage to tell literally everyone about his situation, some taking it better than others.

Frehley got to do a lot of things she wanted to do like meet her idol Selena Gomez and has almost kicked cancers butt more than once and might still be able to.

The final connection between the two is how everyone around them acted about their situation.

Ben told basically told everyone at the last minute that he was going to die. Rudy took it pretty well knowing he didn’t have much time left, Cody was upset you could tell but what also very supportive of his brother. But then theres the people who took it pretty hard.

Coach was very upset and angry that he didn’t tell anyone sooner(no pun intended), Dallas told Ben to get out of her house and then Ben’s parents moaned and cried.

Frehley’s family took it the hardest because I mean come on, that’s there little girl and little sister there who is suffering right in front of them.

My family took it pretty hard too because we're close friends with the Gilmores and we have watched them suffer through this. Let me tell you it is NOT easy watching the youngest of a family slowly die of Cancer. So over all these are the reasons why I think Ben and Frehley have a connection, because they are going through similar situations and a similar disease, obviously one worst than the other because one is real and more deadly than the other.
