Ch 8 is about Alfred going running in the park. Then Alfred comes home and aunt Pearl is worried what he was doing and where he was. Then Alfred said he wanted to be a boxer and aunt pearl freak out that he would be hurt.
Chapter 9 begins with Alfred waking up and going for another jog. The cops that made fun of him before actually gave him a compliment saying stuff like “Hang in there, Al, you’re lookin’ good,” After he was done Jogging for over an hour he went home. Aunt Pearl was suspicious and asked where he had been. Alfred was acting cocky and answered with goofy stuff like “From One Hundred Tenth to Eighty-fifth Street and back,nearly three miles.” Aunt pearl asked if he was drunk and Alfred made a joke and tried to explain to Aunt Pearl that he wanted to become a boxer. Aunt Pearl was too fond of the idea of her nephew Alfred getting hurt in a boxing match. Alfred explains that he can make big money from boxing and that he is serious about it too.
Chapter 9 begins with Alfred bumping into Aunt Pearl when he comes inside the house. Then Aunt Pearl asked Alfred if he was drunk but Alfred said that Now Aunt Pearl, you know I never drink till after breakfast. Then Alfred tells Aunt Pearl that he is going to be a boxer and she is like in a shock when he says that. Willie Streeter stop boxing because he had a cut eye, and he made Spoon quit because he was getting hit to much.
Chapter 9 starts out at aunt pearls apartment where aunt pearl is suspicious of where alfred was the last night. Then Alfred tells Aunt pearl about the fight and that he is going to be a boxer. Aunt pearl told Alfred that they will have to talk to reverend price about being a boxer.

Once he made his way into Aunt Pearls house she started to interrogate Alfred on his where he had been that whole night. Alfred counters the question with the answer that he had been at a boxing match and that he was training to be a boxer.
Chapter 9 begins with the cop yelling to Alfred as he’s running to hang in there and he’s looking good. Other guys running waved at Alfred like they knew him and he waved back. Afterwards on the way back Alfred ran into his Aunt Pearl and told her why he was running. They talked in the kitchen and Aunt Pearl wasn’t too happy about Alfred wanting to become a boxer and he started explaining that boxers make a lot of money and Aunt pearl told him to not make any promises.
