Company Slogans - What do they mean?

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/persuaders/view/

After watching the Persuaders video, do this:

Research THREE company "slogans" and answer this question:  What is the company trying to say to the consumer with their slogan?

Example:  Nike: Just Do It
The Nike slogan, "Just Do It" was a tribute to the company's can-do attitude, according to a case study published by the Center for Applied Research. The "Just Do It" campaign captured the company's "grit, determination and passion," says the report, and encouraged people to exercise, or just do it.

  1. There are also other companies that use different types of slogans to grab the attention of the consumer, some are short, others are a full sentence. Here are some examples.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know about Coca Cola’s “open happiness” slogan. Coca Cola says that happiness is enclosed in a little can or bottle and only you can get it out, sip it down, and be happy. Personally, i don’t prefer carbonated drinks, because of the carbonation. To me, carbonation is not happiness. If they really want some happiness coming out of drinks, they should have happy workers who make the stuff. (and some non carbonated drinks.)

You’ve heard of “quaker oats” right? well this is one messed up slogan for the companys puffed wheat cereal. “the cereal that’s shot from guns”. It’s a real slogan. so is quaker telling us that you can use puffed wheat as firearm ammunition? They shouldn’t be making this for the general public, they should be making this for the military. I mean think about it, “Quaker puffed wheat cereal! You can eat it, and shoot people with it!” If it really could be shot out of guns, shouldn't it have been made illegal by now?

There are many different brands that make cigarettes, one of them was L&M, they had a slogan which said “Just what the doctor ordered”, In a realistic situation, doctors would never recommend smoking to their patients, smoking is probably how they wound up there in the first place, has anyone ever thought of that? They don’t think we do, probably because people are so hyped up on cigarettes we don’t stop to do so.
