  5. Chapter 9 begins with Ben picking up Dallas and taking her to the Homecoming Dance, where they get a standing ovation when they arrive. When they arrived at homecoming they had a old group band called Purple Floyd playing songs while Dallas and Ben danced together. When they were dancing Ben seemed sad because he was going die. After the dance Ben brought Dallas home and they talked about the future and she told him about her in the past about her uncle who raped her. Ben was in a dream talking to Hey-Soos, Hey-Soos says, Love, in the universal sense, is unconditional acceptance. In the individual sense, the one-on-one sense, try this: we can say we love each other if my life is better because you’re in it and your life is better because I’m in it, The intensity of the love is weighed by how much better. Ben knows full well his life is better because she’s in it and wondering if the same will be true if he figures out how in hell hes going to tell her the truth about himself.

  6. In chapter 9 starts with Ben taking Dallas to homecoming and when they arrive there they are greeted with spontaneous cheers and thunderous applause from everyone.
Ben feels really good at first from the motivation but he starts to feel deeply depressed after a while because he knows that this will be the highlight for the remainder of his life. He brushes the feeling off after a while knowing that he should still enjoy the time he has left. Although he can't help but feel depressed on the fact that he is always worried about his brother and parents.
Later after the dance out in the parking lot Dallas tells Ben good and bad news. The good news being that Ben could stay at her house for the night. The bad news for Ben being that he can’t have sex with Dallas.
Dallas also tells Ben something about her past that she’s never told anyone before about her Uncle molesting her. This means that she trusts Ben a lot and probably more than anyone she knows.
Ben also has a another dream about Hey-soos, who tells Ben about what love truly is. Ben wakes up with what he just learned and takes it into consideration. Ben says “I am lying in Dallas Suzuki’s bed in the early morning darkness, listening to her easy breathing, knowing full well my life is better because she’s in it and wondering if the same will be true if I figure out how in hell I’m going to tell her truth about myself. This means that he learned to not taking anything for granted with the time he has left.
