Six Paragraph Essay - I Am the Messenger

Characters...

Identify 3 characters and prove your understanding
Select 3 different characters from your book. Compose a paragraph for each character that explains what kind of a person they are. Be sure to include textual support. Oh, and I don't mean that you should tell me what their job is- I'd rather you focus on telling me all about their personality as you demonstrate with your textual support.

Conflict...
This is where it starts getting good...
in 3 separate paragraphs, explain how each character has conflict with another character. Be sure to explain how that relationship exists in relation to the conflicts you have mentioned above. This conference in total should equal 6 developed paragraphs with textual support. Do not schedule a conference and expect a grade if you have anything less.

  1. ED is the protagonist of I am the messenger. He is negative about his own life for example he says “ No real career. No respect in the community. Nothing.” (Zusak 15) This shows Ed as a Pessimistic Because anyone that talks that bad about life is down on life. Ed is also a caring person. For example when he reads WUTHBERING HEIGHTS to Milla until “she falls asleep on the lounge after a few pages and wake her and help her to bed”(Zusak 56). This shows Ed as a caring person because he pretends to be Jimmy for Milla. Ed is a round and a dynamic because
he is already changing as a person.

Marv is the static of I am the messenger. Marv is a guy who can negative sometimes but only if people make fun of his car. “ I just want you to pay the parking fine for my car” (Zusak 8) This shows Marv does not care about anybody else escaped his car. Marv never shuts up when playing cards. “ There's Maver who never shuts up, sitting there trying to smoke cigars and simultaneously enjoy it.” (Zusak 15) This shows that Marv never stop talking and also tries to act cool. Marv is a around person because we're learning more about him.

Ritchie is also static of I am the messenger. Ritchie is a guy that would stay out of the way and stay on the side lines. “ there’s no need for that yelling from under the lego table Shut up you” (Zusak 9) This shows that he can’t stand up for himself. Ritchie is also a person that goes with anything that Ed says because he is more of a follower than a leader “but he’ll agree to almost anything”(Zusak 148) this shows that he is a follower.

In I am the messenger Ed and Audrey have a internal conflict about their relationship. For example Ed has a big crush on her but she doesn't feel the same way about him.He Images him sleeping on her lap.But he is also jealous because she is hanging with other guy and sleeping with them he tells her finally how he feels about her but she still feels uncomfortable about dating him.

In I am the messenger jimmy aka Ed external conflict. Jimmy and milla has a strong relationship. For example when he first went to Milla house she know him has jimmy so he pretended to be him to make Milla happy by reading her favorite book WUTHBETING HEIGHT to make feel that she isn't alone in life.

In I am the messenger another relation between Ed and Sophie is external conflict . Sophie was another person on the card where had to go to. When he first saw her he talk about her long legs that she had and how she would look way when she talk but then after awhile they became friends and talks to her father to race with no shoes on. Ed watch every single race they she raced in.

  2. The protagonist of I am the messenger is Ed Kennedy. Ed is pessimistic about his own life when he describes himself as having “no real career, no respect in the community, nothing” (Zusak 15). This shows Ed is pessimistic because anyone who talks that bad about themselves is down on life. Ed is also a very caring person when he reads to Milla until she “falls asleep on the lounge after a few pages, and I wake her and help her to bed (Zusak 56). This shows Ed is a caring person because he pretends to be “Jimmy”, Milla’s dead husband and brings her comfort with his visits. Ed is a round character, we know everything about him and he is also dynamic because he is already changing as a person.

A dynamic character of I am the Messenger is Audrey. Audrey seems like the type of person who can’t live without a guy by her side. “Back at the vacant taxi’s lot, I see Audrey kissing one of the new blokes who works there” (Zusak 82). This shows that Audrey is constantly looking for the perfect guy, because Ed notices her kissing someone he doesn’t know. Audrey is also the type of person who is concerned about her friend’s safety. “Good. now as I was saying-it definitely isn't me. I do however, have a theory on how and why it ended up in your letter box” (Zusak 33). This show’s Audrey is caring because she thinks she know’s why Ed got the card with the addresses. Audrey is a round character, we know a lot about her and she is also dynamic because she is changing her actions throughout the book.

Another character in the book is Marv. Marv is the kind of person that is really protective of his personal belongings. For example, his car. ““Why don’t you get a new car, son?” Marv look’s seriously at the man. “I have my reason’s”” (Zusak 13). marv is also a static character. because he doesn’t really change throughout the book. he is always getting into bad mood’s because of small thing’s. like his car, and Ed not playing in the annual sledge game. “He’s unhappy now, and not just an unhappy kind of unhappy” (Zusak 98). This shows that Marv can be rough at times, but he’s calm when when he isn’t rough.

Ed and his mother have a really bad conflict. because in the book, it says that it has been going on for years. His mother couldn’t stop Ed and his sister’s from swearing all the time. Since Ed’s mother couldn’t stop it, she decided to join them. Ed and his mom don’t get along. because Ed is very forgetful,”You were s’posed to pick up that coffee table for me from KC furniture, Ed” (Zusak 27). And he’s poor, “Since my father drank all our money away, I just went straight into work when school was done” (Zusak 17). It is an external conflict.

Milla has an internal conflict. Her husband Jimmy died during the war, but Milla doesn’t know that. This is an example of internal conflict because she has been waiting for her husband to come home for so many years. “James Johnson, 1917-1942, died serving his country, beloved to Milla Johnson (Zusak 60).” Ed keeps Milla company since she doesn’t know that Jimmy is dead.

Ed and Marv have some external conflict. Marv really wants Ed to be in the sledge game, but Ed is too busy with the cards. “get keen then, Ed. let me know within twenty-four hours if you can play. If not, we’ll get someone else. There’s a big waiting list, you know. These games are a highly sought-after tradition. We’ve got blokes like Jimmy Cantrell and Horse Hancock dying for a run. . . .(Zusak 98)” This shows that Marv really wants Ed to play in the sledge game. Ed keeps telling Marv that he will think about it.
