  1. TS: There are similar themes in Eminem's 60 minutes interview and The contender.
SD: The first theme is displayed in both is overcoming obstacles.
ELAB: Overcoming obstacles is displayed in The Contender when Alfred's dad left him when he was young and he never met his dad. This is similar to Eminem when his dad left him when he was young too and he never met his dad also. Dad's are there for you and help you overcome them, but losing your dad is the hardest part of life.
SD: The 2nd theme is displayed in both is Learning/Knowledge.
ELAB: Learning/Knowledge is displayed in The Contender when Alfred dropped out of school. This is similar to Eminem because he also dropped out of school, but they are both going back to school. They both dropped out of school because Eminem didn't like it and Alfred saw no point in it.
SD: The last theme is displayed in both is Bullying.
ELAB: Bullying is displayed in The Contender when Alfred got bullied by Major and pressuring him in something he didn't want to do. This is similar to Eminem when he also gets bullied and shoved into lockers. Alfred started boxing because of Major and Eminem started singing about being strong.

  2. Ts: There are similar themes in Eminem’s 60 Minutes interview and The Contender.

Sd: The first theme that is displayed in both is that they both had to overcome obstacles, like being poor.

Elab: Eminem grew up in multiple homes each one worse than the last. Alfred has been poor most of, if not his whole life as well as Eminem. They overcame these obstacles by doing something that could’ve paid well like rap and boxing.

Sd: The second theme that is displayed is that they are both High School dropouts.

Eminem went through 9th grade 3 times and finally dropped out after the 3rd time. Alfred dropped out of High School when he was in Junior year thinking that he’ll get nothing out of High School. They both eventually went back to School.

Sd: The third theme that is displayed is that they both had to overcome the obstacles of not having father’s.

Elab: Eminem's father left him when he was only 6 months old so he didn’t even know him, and also grew up with his mother his entire life(Until he became famous.) So overcame this obstacle because he didn’t even know his father to begin with. Alfred's father left when Alfred was a child and his mother died of Pneumonia so he lived with his Aunt most of his life. He overcame this obstacle of not having a father by trying not to think too much about him and how he was selfish for leaving mom and him when she was dying.

(I also found it funny how in the interview it said when Eminem came back from his drug addiction that he had the energy of a boxer because Alfred’s a boxer.)

  3. TS: When we watched Eminem on 60 minutes, we learned that Eminem and Alfred from the contender are a lot alike.

SD: The first theme displayed is Bullying.

Elab: Bullying is displayed because Alfred got beat up by Major, Sonny and Hollis and Eminem got beat up by students at his school. They overcome that when Alfred started boxing so he could toughen up and not get beat up and Eminem started being good at his rap battles so he got more attention.

SD: The second theme displayed is Drugs.

Elab: Drugs is displayed because Alfred did drugs at the party when he was invited to and Eminem almost died from drugs. They overcame that when Alfred saw what he was doing and when Eminem noticed that he almost died.

SD: The Third and final theme is Learning/Knowledge.

Elab: Learning/Knowledge is displayed because Alfred dropped out of high school in 11th grade and Eminem Dropped out of high school in 9th grade. They both eventually caught up and graduated high school by taking night classes.

Closer: that is how Eminem and Alfred are alike.

  6. there are many things that you can compare Alfred to eminem
one way they are similar is overcoming a lot of depressing things in life like his dad leaving and
constantly moving. He also also had a problem with drugs and so did Afraid in the book. But eminem had it worse with drugs by getting addicted to extacy and other drugs. the two people were also told my many people that they werent going to make it.
