After watching the video, comment on the quote below as it relates to America's consumer culture:
"this (building instruments from garbage) has been a process that has taught the kids that things in life don't always happen immediately."
Then, re-watch the final 5 minutes and find your own quote from the video and comment on your quote and how it relates to America's view of consumer culture.
This involves in consumers culture because of all of the kids that are there and they don't have lots of money to even buy their own instrument they have to make it out of trash in order to do so. This has also told us about how we have so many good stuff but all they have is trash that they have to make it out of it we shouldn't be greedy we should send some of our stuff up there so that they don’t have to be so alone in this world.
ReplyDelete“They get into drugs and alcohol because they don't know what to do with their lives so music is something that helps avoid all these things.” This American culture because some people in the US does the same thing they after school kids don’t know what to do with there life so they do so they get into drugs and alcohol just to calm them down. We think that all the people over there nothing but poor people but they are people who has a life and able to make music out of trash.
People are now starting to make musical instruments to make musical instruments. Which is pretty astounding, because they actually sound like real instruments. Since musical instruments are really expensive with the economy being so bad, we could start making our own and save lots of money. The quote “This (building instruments from garbage) has been a process that has taught kids that things in life don’t always happen immediately” relates to consumer culture because if you want to get something but don’t have the money, you can’t just get it right away, you have to wait or work for it. If you want to get something in America, you have to work for it. Because of the economy right now, you can't just have money handed to you on the street, you have to actually do something to get it.
ReplyDelete“You always want the best for your family.” This quote from the video relates to consumer culture because technology keeps getting better and better and we always want to keep up to date with the latest electronics and appliances. Which gives you the urge to get the newest one whenever it comes out and get rid of your old one, since its now “obsolete.”
The quote "this (building instruments from garbage) has been a process that has taught the kids that things in life don't always happen immediately." Shows that if you just sit around and hope for a change it may happen, but it won't necessarily happen very fast or efficient to the people. This quote plays with american consumer culture because where they see garbage they potentially see things in this example music instruments. Here in America we just think of it as a waste of space and useless.
ReplyDeleteMy quote is “don't just give a man a fish. teach him how to fish.” this relates to consumer culture because instead of having everyone do it for you learn how to do it yourself. This plays a big role in food crops because they need to keep growing more and more. Where the people in video live they have to grow there own plants. But here in America we generally think that's a waste of time unless we get money. When really we are getting payed off in food.
"this (building Instruments from garbage) has been a process that has taught the kids that things in life don't always happen immediately."What this quote is trying to say that you need to be patient. Americans don’t have patients if something goes too slow we throw the old one away buy a new one. when you throw something away people think of other ways they can use the like the kids that have Instruments made out of the garbage that we throw away.
ReplyDelete“Even trash can be an educational tool that can changes someone’s life and the lives of others”. What this quote is trying to say is that trash is more useful than just being thrown away in the garbage and It can help someone who doesn’t do anything with their lives and by making the Instruments out of trash will give them a chance.
I think that we Americans think different about making Instruments out of trash because we don’t have the patient to actually spend time making them when we could just buy new one’s from the store or the Internet. Or we can pay some people to make the Instruments for us so we don’t have to.
This Quote is part of consumer culture because they are reusing this for the trash and making them into wonderful instruments. Also the quote refers to Teaching the kids that this in life don't happen immediately. Over there that they have thing come to them naturally than over here where we can go and buy thing admittedly. Also that over there that if something that breaks they have to fix it and where over here we can break thing and throw it away and then buy new product like it is candy.
ReplyDeleteThe quote that I found is that “We need to make intelligence hip instead of clothes and cell phones.” What it is saying that they are making their intelligence more useful than their clothes and cell phones. Here we think that making our cell phones and our clothes more happy than our intelligence and our schools not seriously.
Kids these day must have very thing right away. Hell when I was young i had to wait for my stuff and I didn’t have all of the fancy electones they have know if I wanted intent i had to wait my turn. Kids these day would know what to do with himself if they got all of the electronic taken away they would have to get a job and epresat the vale to the thing that they have if you buy a new computer you would try to fix it if it was a gift then you would want a new one. We get mad if the internet go down for more than a min. children of South America have know idea why we are complaining because they don't have everything we learn to music they make muise
ReplyDeleteWith South America has one of the biggest dump site and they have to recycle everything they get. (Building a bridge between two worlds.) This quote is significant because when you think of South America you think of lower stand of living they have to fight for their life every day. But this man they fight a daily battle still find time to make music instrument for the teens and children. He is giving these kids a chance at life other than drugs and alcohol. Know they are going to the a better life because a someone was good enough to pay him to make instrument out of garbage.
