  3. I don’t think that sports drinks help your performance at all, because they don’t seem to hydrate you as well as water does. As it says in the article “A kid can drink a 32-ounce bottle of Gatorade Endurance [800 mg of sodium] every hour and still be cramping at the end of the day.” That is evidence that sports drinks don’t work.

Sports drinks carry a lot of salt and sugar. Salt just makes the player even more dehydrated, water actually keeps you hydrated throughout the game. It doesn’t need anything to keep anyone hydrated, because there are lots of nutrients in water to make up for the salt and sugar that it doesn’t need. “Many athletes believe they need sports drinks to replace the salt loss in sweat, but most of the mcan get by just fine with regular water.” Stated Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.

The British Medical Journal stated “There isn’t much evidence that sports drinks improve athletic performance.” If somebody did actually attempt to test this theory that sports drinks improve performance, you probably would not see any difference between someone who does drink sports drinks and someone who drinks water, or doesn’t drink sports drinks.

I do not think that sports drinks improve performance in anyone from athletes to spectators. To me, its more like a regular juice drink that has a lot of sodium and sugar in it.

  4. I believe that sports drinks do help your performance. What I think about it is that it will help you get lots of energy so you can have lots of energy so you can go longer in jogging and playing sports. Most people might think that it is bad for you yes it might be but people are willing to do those drinks so they can get moving and lose some weight or gain some muscles. some might even do some test but most people won’t care because they want to become even better than before. Like how one person said if I were coke or pepsi, I would sell off these brands. People are starting to figure out sports drinks, and criticism against them is only going to grow. Well people drinks sports drinks because it will help them to become a better athlete. Another person said that even kids who play football drinks up to a 32 ounce bottle of gatorade endurance every hour and still be cramping up at the end of the day sometimes we’ll add a half teaspoon of salt to the bottle. I think that even if you do drink that much you will still have cramps on the next day. Sport drinks always helps you get the sodium they need to run for hours. Even famous people will try to make you buy the drinks because they advertise. Another comment said that it is bad to drink too much water or sports. Sports drinks will help you do a lot of stuff a lot better if you try to most people might say that it won’t but it will. Drinks help you to get better in sports. some people might do test but why would they people drinks these spots drinks because they want to. This is what I think about sports drinks.

  5. Sports Drinks Role Often Overplayed

I believe that sports drinks are oversold and overhyped. In the article Sports Drinks Role Often Overplayed, It goes through multiple points on what sports drinks are and there uses. It clearly states in the article “He often works with young football players who can lose as much as 4000 mg of sodium an hour in an especially sweaty workout.”a kid can drink a 32-ounce bottle of Gatorade Endurance [800 mg of sodium] every hour and still be cramped up the next day, “ he says. “sometimes we’ll add a half a teaspoon of salt to a bottle.” after I read this I was kinda confused if I ft can't do its full job what's the point of the Sport drink?
Dr. Arthur Siegel of Harvard university says that “drinking too much water or sports drink before, during or after physical activity can lead to potentially fatal water intoxication.” if that is true why do they have famous people advertise these drinks and don't even say drink responsibly exp. like on any alcoholic beverage it says drink responsibly. I feel that the FDA should make company put that warning on there product.
a point is brought up in the article that “exercise found that players who drank a sports drink during a workout could sprint a bit faster and shoot better players than players who drank plain water, but they didn't do any better on a passing drill.” All I have to say about this is that the British Medical Journal did not take skill into play. In my opinion it was just a coincidence that the players that drank the sports drink did better in a way.
In my opinion these are some points i have to point out in the article Sports Drinks Role Often Overplayed.

  6. I think sports drinks help my performance by putting lectrolights back into my body after a workout because i get tired after football or baseball. During baseball pratice or football pratice i like having gatorade with me because i dont like the taste of water and gatorade puts lectrolights back in you which we need to regain our power. Michael Bergeron, of the National Institute for Athletic Health and Performance stated “Many athletes believe they need sports drinks to replace the salt lost in sweat, but most of them can get by just fine with regular water”. I don't think you can just do fine with water because you keep drinking and drinking water and all it does is rehydrate you and you than about half hour later you get dehydrated again while you can drink gatorade or powerade and get rehydrated by putting electrolytes and a little water into you.
Bergeron also says “a lot of people don’t need anything when they exercise, as long as they start out hydrated and nourished”. I believe that you need something to drink when your exercise because you get tired and dehydrated so you need something to drink and get re hydrated by drinking a sports drink which puts electrolytes back into.
Bergeron says “he often works with young football players who can lose as much as 4,000 mg of sodium in an hour in an especially sweaty workout. A kid can drink a 32-ounce bottle of gatorade endurance [800 mg of sodium] every hour and still be cramping up at the end of the day, he also says sometimes we’ll add a half-teaspoon of salt to the bottle”. I also believe that we need more than half a teaspoon because we sweat more than half-teaspoon an hour so we don’t get dehydrated thats why gatorade would help us during sports when we get tired and dehydrated. These are the three reasons why i believe that sports drinks would help us better than water.

  8. I believe that sports drinks help my performance. I think that it does a little because when players like myself drank sports drinks helps out on workouts. Bergeron says that “ sometimes we'll add a half a teaspoon of salt to the bottle.” I think that putting a half-teaspoon of salt in the sports drink does not help the performance. Also I think that putting a half-teaspoon of salt in the sports drinks would make you more dehydrated. DR. Arthur Siegel said that “if you drink too much it would cause potentially fatal water intoxication.” I think that it is a myth a lie because you can die from dehydration and not fatal water intoxication.

  9. The article SportsDrnksRoleOftenOverplayed is trying to say that it is better than water and makes you better. For example in one paragraph is that “sports drinks have drenched just about every sport in america from triathlons to pee-wee soccer.” Every sport in america is using sports drinks because of commerical with advertise and famous sports players telling them that these sports drinks can help them be better at sports.

Another paragraph says that “sports drinks are also popular with spectators in the stands” These people must be seeing all these athletes drinking sports drinks and seeing how good they're playing and so there buying them so they can be good like them.

One more paragraph that says sports drinks are better than water says “that players who drank sports drink during a workout could could sprint a bit faster and shoot better than plain water” I don't think that drinking sports drinks could make you better it just gives you energy to go workout.

I don’t think that sports drinks could make you better they are just using famous athletes to trick you into thinking that sports drinks can make you better at at sports but they really don't.

  10. sports drinks

Some of the claims in this Gatorade commercial are that people will come to hang and play baseball or basketball with you. it also states the you will be better at any sport you play. the way they try bringing you in is showing all these famous athletes to get your attention so you will by their drink. it also did it with popular sports like baseball and football. plus they did it with a new type of gatorade.

In the article it explains that you need up to “4000 mg of sodium and gatorade has 800mg of it in only 32 awense.” because it does not give a lot of sodium and it is good for some sports like wrestling. if you are over a couple of pounds you can drink and get rid of the water wait befor way in and if some one in basketball is trying to impress a college and he doesn't want to be sweating that bad so he drinks it so he has less sweat it also states that you need more sodium than there is in there so if that is true why do they want it to stop people from drinking it if they need it in there.

It also states that it is that “water is better for you and it it gets more people to the intoxication than gatorade”. If you drink too much of it you can get water intoxication which is worse than dehydration but that is like a gallon of gatorade in one day so i don't think much people can get. it is not like this coming this symptoms only show with large doses so it won't affect most people.

  11. I think sport drinks help regain things that you lost when you are exercising and sick. I think coke and pepsi were trying to expand to different kinds of people, more athletic people. instead of soda, they wanted to make a more healthy helpful drink. I think the people that make the sport drinks are smart, they are expanding and making a ton more money. The electrolytes are the most helpful part of the drink. I don't recommend drinking them all the time, because they have a lot of sugar. I think the criticism about the sports drinks is bad. I think if the people want to figure out they're not all that healthy then look on the back. Know what you are drinking and don't let people think for you make up your own mind. In the story one person said the players burn 4,000 mg sodium and they can drink 32 ounces, thats 400 mg sodium. They are burning way more than what they are taking in, but that is for people that exercise a lot. For people that are lazy and drink it that kinda bad, unless you're sick and not eating. One of the sentences says that players that drinks sports drinks then water did better, so its proven that sport drinks help you perform better, but too much of water or sports drinks during and after can leaded to water poisoning. It’s rare to get , but water is considered a poison and if consumed too much it can be deadly. that is what i think about sports drinks.
